                    SPORTS AND GAMES
Sports

Sports  and  games take their  rightful  place  in  the  lives  of  students  at
Genius English Medium School, whether they  seek  high-level  competition
or recreation. The benefits of  physical activity  for the young are manifold.
Sports  give  an  opportunity to develo  their physical skills  and  to remain
healthy  and  active,  while experiencing the pleasure of  achievement. The
self-discipline  and  practice  required to excel  help  them  gain confidence
in all that they do, in their own selves and in their teams. This also teaches
them the qualities of self-control, self-esteem and leadership and develops
the characteristics of a true team  player and sportsperson, attributes  that
will be of value later in life.

A sport is commonly defined as an organized, competitive, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing). The physical activity involves the movement of people, animals and/or a variety of objects such as balls and machines. In contrast, games such as card games and board games, though these could be called mind sports, require only mental skills. Non-competitive activities such as jogging and rock-climbing, are usually classified as recreations.

It has been often debated in the recent past, whether sports should be compulsory at school or not? It cannot be denied that sports enhances the abilities of the child and develop challenging spirits. In the age of television, computer and video games, school students are becoming highly inactive which consequently leads to obesity in their later life. So many people believe that sports activities should be encouraged from the very early days. Sports and outdoor games play a very important part in development of a healthy and fit body.

The sporting activities incorporatred at the school include athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, cricket, football, table tennis, throw ball, swimming, volleyball, badminton, horse riding, skating, rifle shooting, music dancing and yoga. The school conducts an annual sports meet separately for each of the sections - the Primary School students and the Secondary School students.

The school has made significant progress in various sports and games and is credited with several achievements. Our students have participated successfully both in team games and individual sports.
